Nursing 2000--Central Indiana

ORGANIZATION

Nursing 2000 is a not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1990 as a collaborative effort between nursing practice and nursing education to promote and support nursing careers.  Registered nurses and colleagues from health care agencies, universities, professional nursing associations, and communities work together to advance the mission of Nursing 2000.  The organization is a catalyst to more broadly unite nursing practice and education with issues related to workforce development.

MISSION

The mission of Nursing 2000 is to promote and support registered nursing careers to positively impact clinical and academic nursing workforce resources utilizing contemporary strategies to reach diverse populations.

PURPOSE

Through agreed upon strategies for its collaborating members, Nursing 2000 promotes opportunities, rewards, and role diversity of the nursing profession through public education, career counseling, scholarships, and unique career awareness programming in the eleven Indiana counties it serves (Marion, Bartholomew, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, and Shelby).

VISION
Nursing 2000 will provide unique nursing career development programs and services in central and south central Indiana that focus on diversity and educational advancement opportunities.  These opportunities will result in stronger career pipelines for primary and secondary careers, graduate education, and improve the diversity of the workforce.

GOALS

  • Promote a culturally competent nursing workforce
  • Develop a diverse nursing workforce reflective of the regional population that Nursing 2000 serves
  • Specify Nursing 2000's role and alignment in context with other Indiana nursing organizations
  • Support nurses in educational career mobility and clinical practice to advance nursing careers
  • Support collaboration between nursing practice and education to impact the contemporary education of nurses
  • Promote interest and advocacy for nursing throughout the economic downturn and the renaissance using appropriate strategies as the healthcare system responds to social and financial challenges
  • Serve as a center for information about registered nursing as a dynamic profession to the following groups: elementary, middle and high school students; career changers and second degree; and re-entry and educationally mobile nurses

VOLUNTEERS

Nursing 2000 activities are implemented by RN volunteers. Following an orientation, new volunteers may select the type of activity they prefer. Choices include classroom and community presentations, career fairs, projects, and committee membership. Most volunteer activities range from 45 minutes to two hours with day, evening, and weekend opportunities available.
